There are so many apps available for the iPad that it is hard to figure out where to start. I started out looking at some drawing apps, to figure out which one I like best.
Here are the apps I use for drawing:
Sketchbook Express (free – I use this one most of the time)
Adobe Ideas ($5.99 – this one lacks some functions that Sketchbook Express has. It does give you the option to export your drawing in a vector based format though.)
Moleskine app (free – it’s like drawing in a Moleskine notebook)
Bamboo Paper (Still free)
Penultimate ($1.99 – Sketch app)
I also bought a Boxwave iPad Stylus to make the drawing a bit easier and precise.
Other free apps I can recommend:
Springpad (multiplatform notetaking, I just don’t like Evernote, this is a great alternative. I use this a lot)
Wunderlist todo list manager (multi platform)
Flipboard (fantastic personalised magazine, turn your twitter stream into something really cool)
Zite(alternative personalised magazine, cool to I use it beside Flipboard)
MyPad (Facebook for iPad – official Facebook app still lacks)
Weather HD – nice looking weather app
TV Guide UK (to not miss all those great UK tv programs)
And there is a nice WordPress app for the iPad too.
I haven’t really tried any games yet as I am not to big a fan of games in general, but if you have any tips for (non shooting and non angry birds type of) great games then do let me know.
I also bought an iPad smartcover. Even though it works great, it lacks protection for the back, so maybe it is even smarter to buy another cover to protect both sides in one go.
What are your favourite apps on the iPad? (If you have one that is!).

I love twitter for iPad. For Dutch news I use the Nu HD app which is nicely done. For English news I have the mail online app which I like very much although it is slightly bloated.
I love good reader as an app for PDF files. Especially for studybooks. I also like the iWork apps and the dropbox app.
As for games I would take a look at cut the rope hd and world of goo. Fruit ninja is very addictive too.
For the times that you are back in England, I’ve heard the BBC iplayer app is good as well.
I also got the smart cover and opted for a gelaskin on the back. Easy to apply, looks nice and I don’t have to think twice about placing it on a surface!
Oh yes I have the Twitter App too, of course. And the Hootsuite one. I am still waiting for Tweetdeck here.
I also have the NU HD app, but will have a look at the Mail Online one! (Not my fav newspaper either, but hey).
I have read about the gelaskin back, will check it out, thanks for the tip! The back really needs protecting.
I cannot believe how many games are on my ipad, none of which I actually play, most of which seem to be played by my kids. There’s angry birds, and some FIFA soccer thing, for starters. Thanks for the drawing and notetaking links! They look interesting. I ended up getting a small wireless keyboard for my ipad, but I like using a stylus. Hope you’re having a lovely summer, Ingrid. xoxo
for drawing apps you should also check out Sketch Club! it’s great and only $1.99! :)
a great free app for note taking and such is Evernote. it’s handy because there’s a mac and pc app as well and all the notes are store online so you can access them everywhere.
for games a really fun one you should try is fruit ninja. it really takes advantage of the large ipad screen and multitouch.
