And so I saw The Moon for the Misbegotten. Just a few facts before I give my verdict:
For me Kevin Spacey is the second best actor in the Universe, I think he is fantastic, no matter what he plays.
I also saw him on stage as Richard II in the Old Vic last year, and loved [...]

Cool, cooler, coolest

Kevin Spacey in front of the Old Vic (Picture AP)
Cool.

I have long been looking for a feedreader that does the things I like a feed reader to do. Now I found it. I will add the sites I regularly read to it, press refresh once or twice a day, and voila. You can add [...]

Snow Cake review (10/10)

September 14th, 2006

Snow Cake (2006)

Alan Rickman in Snow Cake
I wanted to see it, because I like Alan Rickman (where has he been?). But I missed the early evening film, because my bus didn’t want to show up, first time I waited for a bus for over an hour. But I enjoyed being outside after 2 days in [...]

Driving Lessons (8.5/10) review

September 11th, 2006

Tagline: A coming of age story about a shy teenage boy (Grint) trying to escape from the influence of his domineering mother (Linney). His world changes when he begins to work for a retired actress (Walters).
If anyone is wondering why I love British films so much, and why they are so great - go [...]

Movie roundup

August 11th, 2006

Wah Wah (8.5/10)
Brit packed drama by Richard E. Grant which you should see for the cast alone : Gabriel Byrne (he is Irish), Miranda Richardson, Julie Waters and Nicolas Hoult. They are all truly great. Shot in Africa.
You might not know Nicolas Hoult by name, but he was the boy playing opposite Hugh Grant in [...]

Strange Fruit - moving

August 5th, 2006

As in moving because I filmed them, but also absolutely moving your heart. They are fantastic.
Trafalgar Square, London, 4th August.
(And here is a picture I quite like)

Strange Fruit

August 4th, 2006

Strange Fruit on sticks
Blurry but you get the idea, will try to make a film clip in stead tonight.
It started with a rejection
While I was really satisfied with my script for the upcoming Sunday film shoot, it got rejected.

Summer reads

July 27th, 2006

Starter for ten - David Nicholls

Northern Lights - Philip Pullman

The Cryptographer - Tobias Hil

I have found my bookshop. I buy loads of books in the charity shop around the corner here in Croydon, where I can buy a bag full of books for only a few pounds. Most of them are just 50p per book, [...]

Stormbreaker review (8/10)

July 23rd, 2006

I admit it, I am not especially in the target audience for Stormbreaker (official site). This is a young version of James Bond and the newspapers love the idea of main character Alex competing with Harry Potter about who is going to be the most popular teenage idol.

Very nice suit Kevin.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
Tagline: Capt. Jack Sparrow owes an unpaid debt to Davy Jones and his army of sea-phantoms…his soul. Now, he must find a way to save himself from becoming one of them, and suffering forever.

Hidden / Cache (5/10)

June 30th, 2006

Hidden/Cache (2005)

A lot was Cache/Hidden in this film. Including the whole point of it. Hidden well, because I couldn’t find it. After 1.5 hour I was wondering if there ever was going to be a point at all. And then the very unsatisfying ending, nah let’s not waste any more words on it, I didn’t [...]

New York, New York at last?

June 27th, 2006

The last few times when I had to decide where to travel to on holiday, I had no idea where to go. So I waited. I waited because I knew that the answer to that luxury question would suddenly present itself somehow and then I would go.
That happened about a year ago with Greenland. [...]

The Salmon of Daoubt - Douglas Adams
The Salmon of Doubt is a must read if you are a fan of Douglas Adams. It contains interviews with, and articles written by Douglas Adams, and it gives you quite some personal background about Douglas Adams as a person. It’s difficult to base your opinion on books only, [...]

Imagine Me & You (8.5/10)

June 20th, 2006

Imagine Me & You (2005)

I was in a very bad mood, went into the cinema, and came out with a very big smile on my face after seeing Imagine Me & You. This not so typical (but still) rom com turned out to be a real mood booster. No one makes better rom coms than [...]

You have to know that all the theatreshows in London are being advertised as “The best show in London” and “Not to be missed” and then the name of a newspaper and the obligatory “*****”.
So I went to see Stomp, in the Vaudeville theatre on Strand. Because I like drums and percussion and rhythm, [...]

United 93 (10/10)

June 9th, 2006

United 93 (2006)
If you would ask me how I felt after I saw United 93, I would say: I felt like if somebody had hit me very hard in my stomach. More than once. I had problems breathing and I couldn’t move the first 5 minutes after the film.
If you can handle that, you should [...]

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
I picked up reading again after I came to London. There are several reasons for this.
One is I like reading. Give me a good book and I am out of this world and into the book, and I don’t hear anything happening around me. [...]

[Picture on it's way]
After 2 days of indoor nose blowing, today was the day to get out again. Back to work, and much better, back to London. I missed being in the city, I missed him and him, and the Southbank, and the feeling of just being here. The weather was making the evening close [...]

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

X-Men: The Last Stand
I haven’t seen all X-Men films. I saw the first one when it came out, and wanted to see the last one, because of Ian McKellen. He is cool as the powerful carcrushing Magneto. And I happen to like slightly nerdish high tech films like these. It is [...]
