X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

X-Men: The Last Stand
I haven’t seen all X-Men films. I saw the first one when it came out, and wanted to see the last one, because of Ian McKellen. He is cool as the powerful carcrushing Magneto. And I happen to like slightly nerdish high tech films like these. It is [...]

The Da Vinci Code (6/10)

May 24th, 2006

I read the book before the film, and I was glad I did. Without a little bit of background info, the film would have been even more confusing. I liked the first 75% of the book a lot, after that I felt the book faded out. I liked the last 25% of the film, the [...]

Notting Hill Coronet

May 22nd, 2006

Notting Hill Coronet - Cinema, London

The first time I popped up from Notting Hill Gate station, I was disappointed. I had expected to see the market, and the house with the blue door. And maybe even run into Hugh Grant, spilling his orange juice on my Love Actually t-shirt. But then, you might say I [...]

The Playhouse Theatre

I did give the half price booth of TKTS a go again yesterday. I was there on Saturday afternoon around 3pm, and the queue was impressively long. So long that I was in doubt if I wanted to queue at all. But I had my book with me, and the sun was doing [...]

The Old Vic

Fall in London is going to be fantastic with Kevin Spacey back on stage in the Old Vic Theatre. Kevin Spacey has just announced The Old Vic’s program, and he is going to play in A Moon for the Misbegotten.

Confetti (7.5/10)

May 8th, 2006

Well you probably don’t want to hear more about elephants, so let’s talk about another favourite subject of mine : English actors. And don’t worry, it is not about him this time.
Confetti is the new British mockumentary that follows three couples as they battle it out to win the title of `Most Original Wedding [...]

The Sultans Elephant 2

May 7th, 2006

The Sultans Elephant in front of The National Gallery
So what did I do all weekend you wonder ? Well I walked behind a huge Elephant. I didn’t plan to, but I simply had to. After friday’s impressive appearance I wanted more. So on Saturday, it swept me off my feet again, first of all by [...]

The Sultans Elephant

May 6th, 2006

Daydream, I fell asleep amid the flowers, for a couple of hours, on a beautiful day.
“Ok I just landed. See you soon, S. Oh, ehrm … sorry about the road.” text message coming in on my mobile phone.

Movie roundup

May 2nd, 2006

And you thought I hadn’t been in the cinema lately ?
American Dreamz
Did this guy really make About a boy too ? (Well done film, one of the few films where Hugh Grant actually shows he can act). American Dreamz is the worst collection of cliches and cheap jokes. Absolutely rubbish.
Lucky Number Slevin
I just don’t [...]

Blue Man Group - London

April 30th, 2006

Blue Man Group

I took a picture of this bus on one of my first days in London, after my move, in the beginning of March. Already there I noticed the face of this Blue Man on the bus. And these blue faces popup on several places in London, in the underground, in cafe’s, in cinemas. [...]

Microhappiness indeed

April 15th, 2006

“Hopefully it won’t take long before we’ll see a show with this guy on the London West End. He surely has talent.”
The Guardian
“More yak, less bull”
The Evening Standard
“Moving, funny, and an absolute original. And where did he get that cool outfit?”
The Daily Mirror
“.. and a cd with all the songs from the show was included [...]

“Hey, you want skunk ?”
That was one of the first things people asked me when I hopped off the underground in Camden yesterday.
“No thanks” I said. I am crazy enough in my head already without that.

Finally some decent stuff

April 6th, 2006

on the Dutch telly.
BBC Worldwide has announced multiple sales from across its catalogue to each of the Netherlands’ major broadcasting groups NOS, RTL, SBS and Talpa totalling over 170 hours of programming.
NOS has gone for dramas and comedies, comprising the new series of Extras (hilariously funny, with Ricky Gervais, see it, is all I [...]

V for Vendetta (8.5/10)

April 3rd, 2006

V for Vendetta
Tagline: A shadowy freedom fighter known only as V uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally.
To be honest, I had no intentions of seeing this film, I thought it was [...]

Just a short review of yesterdays Sigur Ros concert.
The good:
The Hammersmith Apollo hall is a fantastic concert place. Like Shepherds Bush Empire this is a concerthall with style, beautifully decorated and build like a kind of half circle around the stage. Excellent sound too.
Sigur Ros has one of the most beautiful visual appearances I have [...]

Tsotsi (8.5/10)

March 29th, 2006

Tagline : Six days in the violent life of a young Johannesburg gang leader (Tsotsi).
Now here is a beautiful movie : Tsotsi. This movie won the Oscar for best foreign film, and even though that isn’t a guarantee for anything, in this case it is well deserved. The story might be on the edge [...]

How does it make me feel …

February 23rd, 2006

to go to my very last tv-2 concert tonight ?
Well it’s heartbreaking. And tonight I am not going to sell t-shirts, I will stand before the stage for a last time, and sing along with the songs I know so well. And listen to the lyrics that have been a big part of my daily [...]

Underworld Evolution

February 17th, 2006

Viktorrrrr …
Underworld Evolution
Why you might want to see it:
Lots of vampires drinking blood
Lots of people-become-a-werewolf scenes
Kate Beckinsale in a latex suit
Scot Speedman as a werewolf
And seriously beautiful colours, very blueish.

I have been to quite some concerts, but this definetely was one of the best ever, if not the best. I once saw a concert with Jamie Cullum on tv, and I admit, that you quickly can get the impression that he is one spoiled brat. The way he is moving around stage, his jumping [...]

let London come to you.
I know that several people are going to puke (again) because of my music taste, I couldn’t care less. Thing is that this Brit (and Londoner too if I’m not completely mistaken) has been entertaining my ears for quite a while now, and I would glady let him romantisize, [...]
