6 months in London

Bill & Steffen
Wishful thinking

6 months in London. Gosh, time goes so fast !

(Nonsense alert, and Steffen and Bill are there, so be warned).

Things are still going very well. A more or less permanent place to live (and a place I love), a new roommate, a proud pirate guarding a cool postcard on the wall with his life. A job which might not be my ultimate dream job, but it certainly is nice to be there, and my colleagues are the best.

A hot summer is gone, and the fall is slowly colouring the trees. Film school has been a fantastic experience, and the ride isn’t over yet. Good things have happened the last 6 months, and there are no regrets.

I haven’t really thought about Denmark that much since I came here. I don’t miss much from there, but there are 4 men in black I do miss. With my iTunes playing my highest rated songs randomly this night, all night, they suddenly were back in my ears, and my head. TV-2 from Aarhus who have been such a big part of my life while living in Denmark. They are not forgotten.

Bzzzzzzzzz ..

Oh, one moment, mobile phone, text message …

“Hi Ingrid. How’s it going ? Did you know we are going to play a concert in New York in September? Would be great if you could make it, and – New York is groovy! Hope to see you there, enjoy London. S.”

What? TV-2 playing a concert in New York. Wow, cool ! Would like to see that! And New York too! Now where is my credit card, google, “cheap flights to New York” …

Bzzzzzzzzz ..

Huh? What? Another one, hey don’t overdo it with the text messages now …

“Ingrid. How are you? It’s been a while I know, but busy, busy, busy. Does Davy take good care of you? I guess he does. Anyway, I am going to do a play, yeah back on stage at last, in New York from December. Would be great if you could make it, New York is funky! Hope to see you there, say hi to Davy and Slarti from me. B.”

Oh these two men are killing me!
How could they plan this like this. I want to see them both, but my budget says I can only see one.

Now why didn’t Steffen and Bill talk together, so I could catch them both in one time, in New York? Probably because I would be so high on adrenaline seeing and hearing both Bill and Steffen so shortly after each other that I wouldn’t survive. So I had to make a choice, and I am very sorry S. – but I really need to see B. in New York, as I have seen you so many times live before.

I truly hope to see tv-2 soon in Shepherds Bush here in London, ’cause I do miss them. A lot. I can feel it when I play their music. And I miss Danish film. Yes I can rent them on DVD, but I am a cinema freak, I need to see films in a dark place with soft red chairs and a cup of coke. Watching them on a tv screen just doesn’t do it for me. I also miss the ice cream from Paradis Is in Aarhus, as I still haven’t found a decent ice shop in London.

My English is slowly getting better. I learned that you are not supposed to “propose” to people, because then they think you want to marry them. Which I don’t. The right word is “suggest”, I learned that, after being laughed at by half the company. And that is just one out of a long list of blunders.

I love chips in a paper bag and Jaffa cakes and Yorkshire tea with milk, not necessarily at the same time. I enjoy the politeness of English men every single day. And I love the language and all the accents too. I no longer think it’s weird that they are driving on the wrong side of the road, they are driving on the other side of the road. I can find my way around in the city without always having to drag a heavy map book with me. I can take the tube without looking at the tube map all the time. I guess you could say that London is as home as it can get.

  1. I am glad everything has gone so well for you, Ingrid. I can only hope and dream I’ll be as lucky as you when I move away from here to the city we all love; yep, LONDON!
