My mum visited me this weekend and with the weather being fantastic we have been outdoors a lot. Among a lot of other things, we did a lot of cycling!
The first day we took the a canal boat from Little Venice (with London Water Bus) to Camden Market.
The second day I took my mum for a cycle trip in London. We are both experienced (leisure) cyclists, the only thing we needed to keep in mind was to ride on the left side of the road. This all went very well and we had a fantastic trip (in the most wonderful weather). If you ever want to take a great bicycle trip through the parks in central London, I can recommend the following route:
– Regent’s Park
– Primrose Hill
– Marble Arch
– Hyde Park
And here I was going to suggest to cycle home, but my mum said – let’s cycle to Buckingham Palace! So we did, and we asked a tourist to take a snapshots of us crazy Dutch girls on Dutch bikes in front of Buckingham Palace. Brilliant.
We returned back to Hyde Park after that, rode through Kensington Gardens. From there to Notting Hill were we of course needed to have an ice cream. From there we cycled home through Maida Vale, all in all a 25 km trip. (see circular route on the map)

On Sunday we went to Brighton for some fresh sea air. Again the weather was fantastic, and it was lovely to walk around the sea side and just enjoy the sun, a drink on a terrace and the beach.
On my birthday yesterday we cycled a short trip to the boating lake in Regent’s Park, and after that we went for a marvelous cream cake in Clifton nurseries. This is a bit of a gem, there is a really nice cafe in this somewhat hidden garden centre near the canal and they serve the best warm scones with clotted cream and marmelade. Recommended!
It was a weekend well spent!
Any bikes for sale by the way?
It was!
Well I was going to sell the bike on the right (the racing bike) but I so enjoyed riding it that I am going to keep it as a spare bike. (Only bought it for £30 so it was a bargain!) Both bikes need some TLC and the left bike is my daily commuter bike, but will keep them both :)
I have become a passionate cyclist after only some weeks on a bike here in London, really prefer it over stinky busses and sweaty underground trains! :)
Biking in the Canal is absolutely the best. So glad you found Little Venice.
