Wonderful Weymouth and beautiful Bill
I think it is fair to conclude that the English south coast is beautiful no matter where you go. The same goes for the light houses!
Bring on the night
In September 2007 I saw the Police in Twickenham, with a delay of about 25 years. It was a fantastic concert.
My good friend made me aware of the fact that The Police is playing their final ever gig in Hyde Park on the 29th of June. The very last the Police concert? I did manage to both convince her to come along, and to buy tickets for it so on the 29th of June it will be “Every little thing he does is magic” for the very last time live.
Another reason why we wanted to go is because KT Tunstall plays that day too. As does Starsailor, The Bangles and The Stranglers – seems like we get transferred back to the 80’s all day!
But most of all we want to go because there will be a full supporting Bill. We love Bill, we really do!

If inspiration hits you, don’t go home
So while you surely are at home, having a nice dinner, enjoying the weekend – I am still at the office. I am the only person in the office. And I am not working, not on work work anyway.
But I found a new song today, I am going to write a bit more about that at some point, because it is a nice story in itself, and that song made me pick up my pencil.
At last, I hear you think.
Yes at last.
I found 2 loudspeakers which I plugged into my (RED) iPod so there is great music.
I have Yorkshire Tea The Milky Way.
I have a pack with 4 3 Twix bars.
I have my Cookie script.
I have Bill keeping a weather eye on the horizon, making sure I am not going into too deep waters just yet. Or eat too many Twix bars.
I have a pencil and paper, and most importantly – I have inspiration.
I don’t know how long I am going to stay here, drawing, but it might take a while. This is good. And – where would we be without music to inspire us.

Don’t feel sorry for me sitting here, the kick of inspiration hitting you like lightning is nearly as good as, erhm, you know what. Really.

No! No! NO! NO!! This can’t be true. Not that film again. You have seen it 15 times in the cinema already. You got the DVD! I thought we were passed this!
Yeah, well I am kind of not.

Bill Posters will be CCTVed
OK, not a lot of time, so – memo style post with lovely picture.
- I am quite shocked by the sudden death of actor Heath Ledger (28). He was extraordinary in Brokeback Mountain.
- Where are we with the 60 second action feature you wonder? Well after another long night of mad movie making on Yorkshire tea the milky way, chocolate and pizza we are quite hopeful. I found myself moving a mini Trabant on a kebab stick in front of a green screen at 11.30 pm yesterday. How’s that for being a film maker.
We nearly have a picture lock, which means that all the timings in the film are locked. Which also means that the sound track composer can compose his music on the exact second. Timing is a huge issue in a short like this. And being very creative in the edit is a huge issue too. I think we are doing fine. We need a break after this but rest assured that we will return with a new project to work on. - There is a networking evening tonight where writers meet producers. I don’t want to go (being shy and self conscious) but I am going to force myself to go. While I tried to convince Sam that I had nothing to offer – he convinced me that I had – I had a first draft of a feature script, which is more than all the people saying they are writers without having written a complete script ever. So OK then, I have my feature script. And I will have to actively go and talk with people I don’t know, and tell them about it. Scaring the willies out of me that does.
- I will try to prepare a short run through of the story in stead of the several hours (felt like) session Bloglily had to go through.
- I will tell them about my Cookie short too, you never know.
- I will see if I can talk to some female producers as they might be more interested in a rom-com than male ones.
- I have a big stack of red business cards with me which, beside my address and website info carry the tag line of TGITC “Love can’t change what’s wrong in the world, but it’s a start”. How’s that for a rom-com writer.
- I’ll let you know how it went. It’s a first time for me on an event like this, so I don’t expect anything at all to happen. But making contacts is good and necessary in the film industry. Without it you don’t get anywhere at all.
- Bloglily called me good looking and my script “marvelous”. I didn’t pay her to say that. Does it encourage me – yes it does, the marvelous script bit. The good looking bit I don’t believe.
- I have such an insane week this week that I don’t have time for a cinema visit at all. I was happy to read that DIRL won’t disappear from the cinemas just yet, it has just been extended for a week. Good. As there is no Bill film in sight in the very near future (I truly miss him) Dan is getting me through January without going completely insane.
- Go on then, CCTV me.
- I hope you are well out there too.
Yeah OK
When trying to sleep last night I was rethinking my previous post and thought – when are you actually gonna grow up (because I really did shout “yes” in the tube and people did look weird at me) .
I couldn’t come up with an answer, I just thought and realized once more that my life wouldn’t be worth living without passion. And yesterday’s post was a passion post.
Today I won’t mention his name I promise, I just want to say one thing.
It’s with 2 L’s.
And he’s dangerous indeed.

Insert Bill’s face up
When you are hit by a writers block, you can always post a silly picture and pretend that the last drop of creativity has not been squeezed out of your brain. I don’t know where it went, my creativity, but it is not in my head at the moment.
And the above picture: New York – Howard Beach airtrain/Sub way station in New York. They are crazy, those Americans. On the other hand they probably think I am too. The queue behind me probably did, why is this girl taking a picture of this bloody machine? Because I had too.
From the short film front I have good news. I have a copy of my short (very short! – 1 minute only). It has been edited, and we added music to it, so it is now finished and ready for submission.
Yes I would love to show it, but can’t just yet, as the competition we are entering it into doesn’t allow it to be shown on other places before the competition submission period is over. So it won’t be before somewhere in January.
I hated the 1 minute clip I made on film school a year ago, but I am quite satisfied with this one. So now I have made 2 very short shorts, does that mean I can call myself a film maker, you think?
I will go out and catch some London sun. In the mean time – if there are any suggestions of things you want to have explored here, you know what to do. More podcasts? (then send me a list of questions) More drawings? More postcards? More questions? More Bill? More Pirates? More Silliness?
Oh, and one important thing: It’s World AIDS Day today.
Post No Bills and ghosts, the New York way
I know you have been waiting for this, so here we go: Post No Bills ghosts, the New York way. I am afraid that this isn’t the end of it, yet.
Things I noticed in and about New York:
- The weird size of the newspaper. I read a NY times, and it seems very long but less wide than our British papers. It was also a bit more boring, layout wise.
- Most prices in the shops are ex. sales tax. Sales tax for New York city is about 8.375% (it’s different per state!), and it is not that big a deal when you know it, but just imagine prices being changed from $5 to $5.41875 (5.42) and you understand why the number of coins in your wallet explodes for everything you buy.
- Yep, there is an excessive use of Post No Bills all over the city (good!). But what I didn’t understand, why do they write it on places you can’t reach without a very long ladder? Do they really think that I would go that far?
- There are many angry people on the street. (Is it the President?)
- No queue culture – at all.
- Paul Newman’s Organic chocolate in the supermarket. If he can do it, how about …. here in London.
- A “small” Coke in the cinema is the size of a bucket.
- The escalator are at least twice as slow as the London ones.
- I miss it.
