Bill Nighy at the G8 in Japan for Oxfam

Bill Nighy as Lawrence in the Girl in the Cafe

Because he is such a great and groovy and intelligent man. Because it is such an important issue. Because it is so related to The Girl in the Cafe – we do a Bill post. How long has it been anyway!

Bill Nighy is currently lobbying with Oxfam at the G8, to make sure that the G8 doesn’t forget their promises about making poverty history.

Bill did an interview for the Andrew Marr show (Bill’s interview is about 30 minutes in the program).

You can see the interview here.

An update on The Girl in the Cafe DVD world travelling project soon to come.

Bill Nighy in Tanzania with Oxfam

bill-nighy-in-tanzania-with-oxfamThe BBC has a 3 minute film of Bill Nighy who travelled with Oxfam to Tanzania to see the difference that international aid can make. BBC news has also featured a short clip with Bill, as has the morning Breakfast show on BBC 1.

Heya kids, here’s a very important message from your uncle Bill:

And here is more information, should you want to know more. And you really should.

And – I love his hat.

Update:
The BBC Radio 4 has a very interesting interview with Bill Nighy about his trip to Tanzania with Oxfam where he tells about his experience and his thoughts about how aid really helps. At the other side of the table, so to speak, sits Paul Collier former Director of the World Bank.

Listen to the program here. (it’s the first 10 minutes in the beginning, and available for a week only)

Live your life with passion and your heart will sing

Bill Nighy - Lawrence - straightening his tie
This is so true.
Despite the fact that it is Valentine’s day, a day single people tend to hate, and I am no exception.

And you can keep your cards with “I LOVE YOU”, your Sainsbury’s Taste the difference spring milk chocolates in a heart shaped box, your Marks and Spencers Organza Heart with Heart Truffles, your romantic spa weekend for two and your shared bank account. And you think yeah, that’s what any pathetic single girl would say. I hear you, but I actually mean it. Not only because I still don’t understand the concept – why do we need a specially assigned day to say “I love you”? Say it as often as you can. All year around.

And apart from all that – I would really rather fall off my chair.
Lucky, as that was exactly what happened.

Christmas is all around me

Eddy the GoatAnd so I bought a goat.

Say hello to Eddy.

While the mind is occupied with New York and the like, it doesn’t mean we can’t think about other people a bit. I like to think that that’s what Christmas is all about.

So I bought Eddy. And Eddy is probably going to Uganda, or Zimbabwe, some place where she is needed, and where she hopefully will breed and get a big family.

I like that. Eddy is going to Make Poverty History. For a few people at least.

The Girl on Tour – Hawaii would be nice

Bill Nighy - Lawrence in The Girl In The Cafe

What is that man doing here you wonder? I think we have looked at Will Ferrell and Daniel Craig long enough now haven’t we. And we are in the middle of a small update on The Girl In The Cafe on tour project, so it is completely legitimate.

Things are going a bit slower here around the Christmas time. One DVD is currently in Holland but those people seem to have gone on holiday, her twin sister has just arrived at soyouthinkican‘s house in the States. To make things a little bit more exotic for the Girl, Hawaii has just been added to the list of planned destinations. She likes that I can tell you. I might jump in the envelope with her when she is going there, I mean, Hawaii! I envy her a bit, she is going places I have never been.

If you want to be added to the list, please read here and join. If you want to know where she is going or has been check here.

Paul in Spain saw the film, loved it, and wrote a wonderful review. A big thank you for that! Read More

The Girl in The Cafe – travelling

The Girl In The Cafe What can I say, Bart doesn’t like Bill Nighy. Ouch.
I am not entirely sure that he likes the film either, but read his review yourself.

In the mean time, one Girl is trying to catch some sunlight in Spain before flying to Holland, and the other one is in the States and will stay there for a while. Here is a list of people participating and if you want to be added to this list : read more here and join in.
There are 3 simple rules : Watch the film, Write a review on your weblog, Send the DVD to the next person. Easy does it.
Everyone is welcome.

11 countries

The Girl on tour
USA, Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Portugal.

I had no idea when I started this that she was going to travel this far. And despite some hickups along the way, people have been very kind to keep their promises of writing a review and making sure that she was send off to the next person on the list. Another good thing: nearly all people who already have been visited by her loved her.

I hope more countries will follow, having a representative of all G8 countries on the list would be fantastic.

The Girl – still going strong

Bill Nighy in The Girl In The Cafe
Bill Nighy/Lawrence in The Girl In The Cafe

Let’s attempt to write something that makes sense, which is hard, as millions of balls are bouncing in my head at the moment. It is inevitable that Nighy will be a regular here the coming months, so be warned.

Nathan has participated in the TGITC on tour project and written a wonderful review about the film. (It is a long review, and if you are waiting for the film, you might want to wait reading the review until you have seen it, it might contain spoilers) But I am very happy to read that he loved the film.

I was totally astounded by the superb acting by Bill Nighy. He was so convincing as the somewhat older man, who didn?t feel home in this world, not any longer in his job, disappointed in himself, in his achievements.

No I didn’t pay him to write that. But quotes like that make me happy. Men like Bill Nighy too, that is good to read. Nathan wrote the same review in Dutch too for those interested. A Big thank you to Nathan for participating.

The list of people wanting to participate continues to grow, recently New Zealand has been added, and shortly Canada will be added too. I am very happy that the The Girl is travelling around the world like this, as she is carrying an important message.
